META EXPO

a citizen response to proposed development

The Michigan State Fairgrounds is located in a busy urban setting in Detroit and is currently for sale by the State of Michigan through the Michigan Land Bank Authority. Community members have strong opinions about the demise of the State Fair, the sale of the property, and the best use for this large and important property. Individual community members felt unable to influence the development of the State Fairgrounds, even though any future development will impact their lives and communities. The GrowTown design process facilitated individuals to work together formulating a concept and visual communication documents to support their advocacy for the kinds of economic and urban development the citizens coalition would like to see at this historic place.
